We are proud to announce that for 2008 we will be supporting the XRT Womens Cycling Team. Along with co-sponsors Orbea UK, Team Ipswich, and Ipswich Audi. Expect to see the girls in action all over the country this year competing on the road, hard track, grass track and time trial.

Caroline Gammell
Caroline's hometown is here in Ipswich and she works as a lecturer at the university. She competes on road, hard track and grass track on an Orbea Orca, Orbea track bike and a Pinarello grass track bike respectively.

Susie Scorer
Susie lives in Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire and works with the NHS. Susie rides an Orbea Orca and competes in road, track, grass track and time trials.

Emily Fisher
Emily is our star time trialist and lives in Rendlesham in Suffolk. Emily works for a publishing company and rides an Orbea Ordu and an Orbea Orca. She races both on road and in time trials.

Janet Birkmyre
Janet is the newest addition to the Elmys team, and rides road, hard track, grass track, and time trials. Janet is a marketing consultant in her hometown in Buckinghamshire. Janet rides an Orbea Orca.

We wish the girls good luck for the season and look forward to seeing some great results.

Octagon VC - Elmy Cycles - XRT - A Brief History

At Elmy Cycles we have supported many fantastic cyclists over the years and we are immensly proud to have had the honour of seeing the Elmy Cycles team jersey in action at races all over the country.

It all started back in 1995, when our long term squad rider and good friend Carl Thompson formed the Octagon Velo Club, named after his father's MG car restoration business. With the Octagon VC we had many good years with over 12 riders enjoying success at all levels on the road, cyclocross and in time trials.

A few years later we changed from Octagon VC to the Elmy Cycles Racing Team when the new owners of MG started to control the use of the 'Octagon' brand. With the Elmy Cycles racing team we brought together three of the most talented cyclocross riders from the East Anglia region. An initial aim of challenging for National Honours was not only achieved but was surpassed in 1999 with the winning of the British Cyclocross Association's National Championships in Birmingham. The team went from strength to strength with riders competing at all levels at both home and abroad with the highlights being the success on the cyclocross circuit with two consecutive National Championship titles and no less than nine area championship titles!

The team continues on with new riders and new opportunities and for 2008 we are supporting the XRT/Elmy Cycles/Orbea womens team.

We learn a lot from supporting these riders and it helps us to offer you a better service and recomend products that we have real life competition experience of.

It's also one small way of putting something back into the pastime that's kept us working for the last 20 years!
